About Bakersfield Play Center

Our History

In 1952, a group of Bakersfield families formed the Bakersfield Play Center so they could participate in their children's educational experiences. Our founding families worked diligently to raise enough money to purchase our current building.

What is a Cooperative Preschool?

A co-op preschool is owned and administered by enrolled families. BPC parents take active roles on the board of directors as well as participate daily as aides in the classrooms. Working with professionally trained teachers, parents are able to provide a positive and unique first school experience for their child.

Our Philosophy

Since 1952, the primary focus of our school is enhancing the development of the whole child. Our child- centered philosophy allows children to learn though play experiences and exploring concepts at their own developmental pace
